Updates on Lake David Holdings, Inc.

 Greetings!

Mr Fit continues to be a hearty snow-goer, blazing trails with minimal exhaust plumes and maximum resistance to the pothole crusted streets all while navigating never before encountered tectonic plates made of ice in the mountains of South Minneapolis. Warm-up times have increased this winter as Mr Fit now carries a infant passenger in the early morning hours, and with an extended cold weather season, he has relentlessly battled ice, snow, rain, sludge, sleet, wind, and more snow. One investment made before this winter began was a bloc heater plugin. When Mr Fit has his turn in the garage, he enjoys sipping a little electricity overnight to startup warm and bubbly. We are sure he uses less gas to warm the engine while driving those first 15-20 minutes, thus saving much more than the few cents of electricity consumed. Until we acquire an electrical outlet power usage measurement doodad, we'll have to just trust our gut on this one.

The Mr Fit executive dashboard for fuel reporting has been updated from October through present. If you missed the inline link, simply put yer mouse here for a review of the new and enhanced readout. The reporting system still shows fuel economy by tank, cost per gallon, by tank, and has added monthly graphs for fuel economy, cost, and usage. The monthly look provides a more smoother view of seasonality. For instance, our cost to drive the Fit has dropped by 1/3 over 2 years, and while we think we must be out and about much more in the Summer months, he clearly uses much more gas in the winter. Aside from the occasional roadtrip spike, cost has beeen steady at about $90 for 4 refills a month. All of this information has allowed me to set a revised goal for 2010. While air temp has a lot to do with usage and efficiency, I want to try to push the MPGs back up over 35 earlier than it has in the past couple summer months.

The OBD Scangauge II died sometime early last year, so we're driving "blind" in the sense that only our intuition of what it used to tell us can guide behavior. On the lookout for a new, similar add-on that doesn't have quite the same price tag yet shows realtime MPG (like the newer model Fit I believe incorporated in-dash). Have you seen anything similar or discovered a way to get new data added to the in-dash LED display that's already in the computer?

On the work front, David has transitioned from Senior Database Marketing Analyst to Database Developer, still at The Lacek Group. He is excited for the new technical challenges, and opportunity to bring his marketing knowledge and strong communication skills to the Application Development and Information Management practice team. My work has expanded from basic campaign analysis and QA into building and executing logic for dynamic messaging for our Alamo, National and Enterprise Rent-A-Car customers, as well as working with FICO (Fair Isaac) on the Enterprise business. I am training a new marketing analytics director on reporting processes while taking on a handful of new promotional projects for the three brands and their partners. Despite a difficult reduction in staff last year, TLG is rebounding
and building back to its former might. Through strategic reorganization and new development in the project management arena, it positions itself to be scalable and capable of handling larger clients' data. TLG has grown the Ford Owner Advantage program, tripled the size of its car rental business to include all three Enterprise brands (Emerald Club, Quicksilver, and Enterprise Plus), designed and promoted US Bank's FlexPerks VISA card, and a great deal more, all while seemingly every company around shed staff. It's fun to be a part of a company with a realistic but positive attitude. . .one where they challenge their staff to do more and more, but don't take away your post-it notes to save pennies.

I'd love to hear from my readers.. how are your companies managing during the struggling economy? Has it led you to try something new?

We've been busy at Lakedavid Enterprises Headquarters.

1. Mr. Fit mileage and CPG charts have been updated. Click here for the latest information.

2. We had a baby! Visit our sister website, http://www.yussen.com, for updates and photos of little Eleanor Esther Yussen. Out of respect for CAN-SPAM regulations, please note that we did not carry over our subscriber list. If you want to be notified of photo additions, you'll need to subscribe to the other website as well.

3. While we're not abandoning Lakedavid, you may expect less frequent news bulletins here whilst we focus our attention on more pressing matters such as child development, our busy work life, and enjoying the chilly autumn.

It's been a busy couple months! Since our last post, we attended the wedding (souvenir photo below) of Jenna and Keith. The HWCB concluded its Summer season and we've been on break ever since late July. The band is revving up the new year, and will be performing Sunday, Nov. 1, 2009, at the Hopkins Center for the Arts (7PM). We expect a return to rehearsals sometime soon after that date. In August, we enjoyed many performances at Lake Harriet, walks through Kenny Neighborhood, and a visit to Applewood Orchard for early apple picking. Since mid September, we've been busy with our newfound parental responsibilities, but have enjoyed every day, and still frequent our favorite places, enjoying what's left of the residual Summer warmth.

Halloween 2008 brought a slew of new voter- I mean trick or treaters to our door. We fed them well with treats. Post-candy outings included the Lake Harriet Haunted Streetcar, and The Red Dragon in Uptown. Following is a link to a few photos. Tonight we're hosting a large PHP (aka Post-Halloween Partay) so check the link again in a day or two to see pictures of our costumes as well as general fun and merriment. For this year's gathering we're serving up some mad meaty chili, tacos in a bag, pasta salad, hot cider and cold witches brew, groovy ghoulish music and more.

That Looks Like You!

This past week has been event-filled, comprising visitors to Lake David as well as a long holiday weekend.

The Shabakers of the Shabakers of Naperville came to town on the 1st of July, whence we enjoyed great company. Outings included Convention Grill, PUNCH Pizza Calhoun Village, Como Zoo & Conservatory -- (click here for photo highlights), Lake David HQ, y casa de Yussens Senior. We thank them for the good times and pleasant reconnoiter.

The last week has also been filled with copious amounts of lawn-watering, as a result of mother nature having chosen to bless Iowa and Missoura with all of her gifts of precipitation, leaving us Northerners to drain the Twin Cities water system at a painful price not quite rivaling that of the corner filling station. Thanks to unrelenting TLC, our garden boasts a pea plant, several spry herbs, and two thriving tomato plants that come due for harvest in 2-3 weeks. Photos of the ever expanding array of bowls of annuals will be brought forth in the near future.

Visit from Countermarch

In a concerted effort to be more timely than our Madison recap, we bring you this great news clip.

It was a beautiful weekend (besides the occasional rainstorm) in May... Countermarch Systems owner, founder, CEO, President and chief meteorologist Stephen R. paid a visit to Lake David.

Noteable stops included Lake David headquarters, Cheapo CD store, Calhoun Square in Uptown, the new 35W bridge (construction in progress), Matt's Bar - for Jucy Lucys, P.F. Chang in Edina, Williams Pub and La Cacuracha on Dale St adjacent St Paul's downtown.

Here are a few highlights from the visit:

(As Maynard would say...) Salt Peanuts

Steve enjoying same peanuts, with choice of hundreds of beverages.

Random picture of Mr. Fit, because why not, entitled "Look, No Hands!"

Fall Fun

Greetings fans. It's been nearly a month since my last entry and since I was cleaning house on my blogs reader, I thought it would be a good time to let you know that the once chronicles on trials and tribulations on non-profit internet marketing has taken a turn with the tides and shall heretofore profess learnings, musings, rants, ideologies, teasers and insights from my shifting current and future endeavors. For those that missed the bulletin, I departed my post in Little Canada and have since joined a 25 person team of database marketing gurus, with a branch of a top global marketing agency.

As a senior database marketing analyst at The Lacek Group, the Loyalty Marketing Practice of OgilvyOne Worldwide my role encompasses a broad range of analytics services including customer segmentation, data analysis and reporting, in conjunction with strategic customer insight. The position is challenging me to expand my skills with exposure to new concepts and industries, the result of which is very rewarding. The feeling for me is it's a return to my roots in the consulting world, but in a place with a true small company culture and the warmth of 125 smart, creative and friendly colleagues. At the same time it's remarkably like my time at Watson Wyatt in terms of the benefits, resources and professionalism of parent owners, OgilvyOne (over 100 locations in 50 countries) and WPP Group (100,000 emp's worldwide). I'm now a regular metro transit rider with all of the privileges and responsibilities therein. Taking the bus downtown to work has been fun too! This is of course the biggest fall news I have to report.

What other fall goings-on should you know about?

Monday is my 2nd anniversary. Wow! Time flies when you're having fun. It's truly the greatest thing. We're celebrating with a B&B getaway in Lake City.

Sunday is the kickoff event of my concert band's 25th ("silver anniversary") season, a Mississippi River boat cruise.

Lehigh Club Happy Hour planned at Lyon's Pub, Oct 25. Email me if you're local or interested.

Smallish Halloween Shindig planned for Oct 27. Email me if you're local or interested.

Lehigh-Lafayette telecast at Champps, downtown, Nov 17, 11:30AM.

Hope to hear from you all! All the best from your host. Cheers!

goddesses, the couple at the bar/restaurant who you can tell is on
their first date, the iPhone, Jeff & Michele, Brayden & Griffen, Seth
& Carmen, Ryan & Andrew, Wendy, Ginger, Faith, Pickett, James Wood, PV
and the whole crew, the Garden State Philharmonic, Maggie Judith
Cipriano, friends who are getting married soon, friends who are still
searching for the perfect someone, Matt Cuts, John Winsor, Jon Pratt,
Seth Godin, Ralph F. Wilson, other people who waste cyberspace by
sending me useless search-engine marketing articles and conference
invitations, heads of school on the beach, volunteers, former global
volunteer staff and comrades, former FHI staff and comrades, a lot has
transpired my friends. Some of you may have kept current on happenings
through ramblings, musings, entertaining and educational writings on
lakedavid.com; for the rest, we invite you to bookmark the page
blog.lakedavid.com has it has become our new home online, and we
suspect will eventually totally, completely, and without remorse,
replace the once acclaimed ASCII newsletter format. For now, we
request that you breathe a sigh of relief, because the executive
management of Lake David has decided to send out at least one more
bulk e-mail not to be mistaken for spam by readers or e-mail readers.
We hope this letter will quench your thirst for information, wet your
whistle for working on Wednesday, teeter your totter, rizzle your
razzle, echo shamalama in the study, bring your eyeballs closer to
your specs, filter the simon says sounds you hear in your ears when
all else is quiet and still, put schools first and professional
athletes second, and teach you why 'content is king' will never be
proven false.

Imagine that time stands still, the grumbling fan in your 8086
brick-inspired PC is absent, all around you are rich colors of red,
orange, yellow, blue, indigo, or violet. The omnipresent scent of
unidentified food that's been in your freezer far too long vanishes
from your senses. You are lounging in your favorite chair --
preferrably leather -- and have at your side a small round end table,
upon wich sits a Scandanavian lamp with a dim CFL energy efficient
bulb, and a perspiring double stack glass complete with ice and Birch
Beer from a yellow can and rum. You swoosh the froth away with your
orange curly straw and as you stretch like a fat cat you begin to hear
the sound of the ocean. The waves crash on the scalding hot sand just
ahead and, if you aren't careful, you may become the victim of a freak
kite accident. You are safe under the care of your palapa umbrella,
and with your drink in hand, you can now imagine yourself playing
basketball in the water. It seems strange that you are only 29 and
everyone else is 74. Is it possible that a place exists where the
average age is even higher than that of your local community band?
It's not the Lion's Club or the Elk's Club or the VFW fish fry where
you long to showcase your musical talents. . it's a tranquil place
where you can be at peace with your reading, your music, your drink,
and the odd looking koala bear in the seat next to you, who clasps her
arms around a flag of Queensland.

Bored of looking at people nearby, you head to the tiki bar for a
change of pace. You pick up a coconut lava drink. The sounds still
etched in your memory, you stretch again like a fat cat. You brush the
sand off your feet only to venture back across the molten sand. Along
the way various things become trapped in the confines of your
Birkenstock sandal. A jellyfish. A broken oyster shell. Three
chocolate coins. A ladies wrap that could also double as curtains in
your Grandmother's house. An avocado. A plate of nachos with cheesey
dip. Lettuce. A toothpick (ouch!). An Education Minnesota Photo
Calendar from the Minnesota State Fair. Jingle Bells. Ferocious
fishes. A dink adorned with miniature license plates. A snowshoe. A
corned beef. A large shamrock shake. Matches. A horrible piece of
music by Tichelli. Power lines. A cookie from Great Harvest Bread
Company. Dave Letterman's cue cards. A fiddler on a roof. Bagpipes.
A polka band. A University of Delaware no parking sign. Some sloppy
ribs from Warmdaddy's. A glass of champagne from Swanky Bubbles.
Freshly sprouted pastel Tulips. A Sun Country Turkey Melt.

After removing your foot from the sandal and tossing aside the
carefully selected assortment of...of...things...you reach your
lounger, kick back, keyhole the bottom of your new drink, and go to
town on what is sure to be the finest article on the Lake David
newstand that you've come across in the last 702 days. Go on, we dare
you!

THE PREVIOUS JOB SECTION SECTION
Let's play a little game of true or false with excerpts from our last issue...
"Scooby Dooby Doo, David is employed!!!" TRUE
"Name: Forward Hindsight (FHI)" FALSE
"If all goes according to plan...take on the marketing strategy/brand building aspects " FALSE
"What's the catch?" TRUE
"Sound too good to last?" TRUE

Does this have you all confused? You must not be one of the folks who visited my website or e-mailed me in the last year because as of Jan '06 I have no longer worked at aforementioned firm. While it's been over a year and my marketing career has broken ground as a result, the
bitter taste in my mouth from what was an unexpected and unpleasant departure, will be difficult to erase from memory. Every bad experience is a good lessoned learned, or something.

What has happened since 01 06 has been positive. The last year has gone by FAST for David and we will explain why.

THE WHAT IS YOUR NEW GIG SECTION
David joined Global Volunteers in Feb '06 as their Internet Marketing
Manager. It is a new position which has been good and bad. David has
filled a generalist role, managing everything from online advertising
and search engine sponsored keyword campaigns, to brand management and
development, to business analysis to competitive intelligence, to
integrated communications and e-mail marketing, to website design and
development. For any interested in checking out the website, it's
located at http://www.internationalvolunteer.net. Don't even bother
searching the company name as the existing site is planned to be
phased out of existence in the very near future.

What does David love about the job? His coworkers are all very nice
people. The work is pretty diverse, as you may gather from previous
description. It allows space for independent work and ongoing
self-education. There is also a quick adoption for small projects and
a visible reward. David has worked on as many as a dozen print
projects that you can hold in your hand if you are interested. He's
also had a free trip to Salvador, Brazil (October; see
http://picasaweb.google.com/dyussen for pictures) where he volunteered
with preschool children and took in some local South American culture.

For more info on David's work, read past articles on the lakedavid website or e-mail david @ lakedavid.com.

HISTORICAL LETTERS TO THE EDITOR IN NO PARTICULAR SEQUENCE

Matt P, 8/31/05:

"Unfortunately, being in London I will not be able to make the
wedding. But I will make up for it by offering the spare bedroom in my
flat to you and Christine sometime between now and Feb. 1 for as many
days as you can put up with me! Hope you are doing well."

Thanks for staying in touch Matt ;-) Seriously, it's good to have
those 5 word email exchanges every 15 months or so. For those who
missed it, Matt has since returned from London and is now consulting
for McKesson, based in Durham, NC. How did the Birthday of
Significant / Groundhog day party go? Send us photos!!

HAS, 11/9/2005:
"I went to Memphis once, for the Liberty Bowl. We actually played on
Beale Street, and it was awesome. Tho the band had to stay at a
Holiday Inn in Olive Branch, Mississippi, because they thought we'd
cause too much trouble in the city since we were there for a whole
week. I think that was the trip where we brought massive amounts of
duct tape and taped up the "l" and the "i" in the big lit up letters
of hotel name -- turning it in to the "Ho' day Inn". Hmm, I'd better
be careful -- I bet there's a warrant out for our arrest for that one.
We also played at Graceland, and they let us in free. I forgot that
Graceland is in Memphis. Our field show, "East Carolina, the 51st
State" got us quite a reputation down there in the South -- we played
up the stereotypes -- surfers, gay folks, communists (that last one
isn't us, but since we had red uniforms we used it) and demonstrated
all of the above -- including dropping our pants to reveal surf shorts
and, um, you can figure out the others. There was also more than one
band member who decided that the best way to avoid being hung over was
to be drunk for the whole week. Good times."

>> School name has been omitted to protect the innocent but you can
probably take an educated guess <<
Hint: it's West of all points East.

Thanks for the amusing tales of college band days!

Scott Y, 11/11/2006:
"The girls fell into the school routine nicely this year. It actually
seems to get easier each year they get older. They have *excellent*
teachers this year. Carly's first grade teacher is a very nice lady
with lots of experience and she already has Carly reading at an
end-of-first-grade level. Gillie has a male teacher for the first
time and she's actually responding quite well to him. She got to take
home the class guinea pig, Eddie, for a long weekend in October."

Thanks for the updates! We are staying on top of things with yanoff.org as well.

JCT4, 11/24/06:
"Greetin's Y'all from Ole Virginny, the state that spends one dollar
on transportation infrastructure for every three on corn liquor
promotional campaigns. . .***New this year!!! We have got a John Deere
Gator, you know, those golf cart things that they use to carry injured
football players off the field when they're too pussy to walk it off
like a man! We can pick you up at the bottom of the driveway, and no
one has to experience life under the bumper of Juan's car!***
-Justin, contactable in the Poconos by calling 570-123-4567 or through
unprotected sex."

Seeing as though Justin was the only person who's emailed David with
ASCII art, we felt this to be highly deserving a spot in the
newsletter. The previous were excerpted bits of laughable prose from
his winter ski event legal disclaimer.

SCR, 2/4/07:
"Looks like I'll be coming for a visit! Don't know what the perks are
yet, but I'm sure I'll find out more later. No clue what I'll be
speaking on so I'll have to work on that too."
http://www.cfobjective.com/conference/index.cfm?event=page.speakers

Jinkies! Congrats on the speaking gig. Does the pass include all you
can drink? Expensive. But we're sure you'll have free time in the late
evening hours to visit Lake David, of course!

BIG SIS, 2/5/07:
"basics: avo, tomato, red onion, lemon or lime juice, garlic salt,
regular salt. optional: cilantro, white canolini beans

I'm enjoying our mild weather, but excited to hear we're getting rain
later in the week because that means we'll finally get some much
needed snow in Tahoe.

I just booked a flight to so. cal to go to Joshua Tree over Presidents
Day weekend. Some new friends invited me. They used to live there
and have a crew of close friends there. Can't wait. I've never been
and I think we'll do some hiking, climbing, and possibly camp one
night"

Thanks for the update Elayna! We can't wait for the personal lesson on
that killer guac recipe.

CORY, 11/27/06:
"cool,"

Never one to waste words on e-mail, we appreciate your saving the
internet from useless drivel like this newsletter, and from emails
that go on for pages about coworkers and babies and coworkers' babies.

** Late Breaking News ** Travis Shephard, our illustrious associate
conductor (That's Associate, NOT to be mistaken for Assistant) has
formally announced resignation of his tenure on the podium. As a
farewell tribute the band played S&S for him one last time (did they
ever play it for him before? Probably just the once when he was full
conductor al temporare). The folks at Lake David truly do hope that
Travis continues to grace the band with his presence in the low brass
section as an instrumentalist, however we also recognize the
possibility that he may just be ready to move on, and ease some stress
in his life by letting go a little bit. For any of you who know how
hard it is to leave a band behind, we certainly empathize.

CONCLUSION

There's nothing left in the bottom of the barrel of monkeys so look no
further for more banana peels and honey! Thanks for reading, hope you
had fun! The Lake David Board of directors has voted and the jury
offered two suggestions for dedications. First, they requested to
dedicate this 21st edition of the Lake David Fanclub Newsletter to Al
Franken. However, never one to spout political views, the editorial
staff has vetoed this nomination. Second, the Board recommended Steve
Jobs. His marketing genius is a marvel to us all. The satirical Apple
Computer marketing videos and rampant success over the last two years
(since the 20th edition was published) in building an empire in the
portable audio industry is something we at Lake David admire from
afar. For any who missed the hype, the next big hit is claimed to be
the iPhone, but that is questionable in our minds. The revolutionary
innovations that blindside us are not generally things people were
formerly whispering about so darn much. Enough with the
techno-ramblings. The motion to dedicate to Stevie J was shot down
with finality by a hard core extremist PC Gamer in a dark alley. All
he left behind was a note that said something about the human IQ being
an inverse proportion to the degree to which one adores Macs. Besides,
we think he might have been a dedication recipient in a previous issue
of the newsletter! Putting an end to the squabbling, the editor in
chief of the Lake David staff has proclaimed that this issue shall be
dedicated to the marvelous Ivone DaSilva of Salvador de Bahia. While
David visited Brazil last October, Ivone is a grandmotherly figure who
went to extraordinary lengths to make his stay enjoyable, and to fight
local bureaucracy to help him speak with Christine by cell phone,
internet, or any other medium. Here's to you, Ivone!

We promise to send an all new complimentary newsletter again soon,
whence we have some more letters from our fans, news to report,
political elections to discuss, weddings to recap, jokes to tell, and
people of whom to make fun. Please submit your comments, blood
pressure, pulse, bank account number, criticisms and any other
material for the next LDFN to david@lakedavid.com so that he may
respond in kind by mailing you Surface Mount Technology publications,
beer of the month, or calling to give a shout out, a howdy, or an hola
grande!
